Surah Al Fatihah

WHAT IS "SURAH AL FATIHAH"?
A surah is an Islamic word for chapter, and an ayah is an Islamic word for "verse". In English, the title Al Fatihah is often translated to "The Opening". Surah Al Fatihah is the first surah (chapter) in the Qu'ran, and it consists of seven ayahs (verses) that form a prayer for Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala's mercy and guidance, and express the believer's dependence on the lordship and mercy of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.

WHY IS SURAH AL FATIHAH SO IMPORTANT TO LEARN?
Recitation of Surah Al Fatihah is considered a fard (obligatory) act during salat because:
Abu Hurayrah narrated that the Prophet salla Allahu alaihi wa-sallam said: “Whoever offers a prayer in which he does not recite Umm al-Kitab (i.e., Al-Fatihah), it is defective” – he said so three times"                       [Narrated by Muslim].
So, without a proper recitation of Surah Al Fatihah a prayer (salaah) is defective, i.e invalid. So learning Surah Al Fatihah in arabic is very important. One should try and learn with meaning so that he or she connects with the Almighty Allah better and ponder upon the excellence and flawlessness of Allah's words.

The Journey...

Every time I saw or happened to hear about someone doing hifz (memorization of the quran) I always thought they're truly blessed and gifted from Allah (swt). I  secretly wished that someday I could memorize some parts of the Quran and better myself as a Muslim in the sight of the Almighty. Every time I read the Quran, I yearned that Allah would make his words easy for me to understand! But sadly I never really strived to do so then...

And one fine day, when I am living a mundane life thinking to myself everyday that I have nothing meaningful to do...my life is so drab...blah blah blah... A dear friend invites me to join a virtual texting group where she aspired to make sisters learn and memorize surahs from the Quran; which she herself had begun memorizing herself despite a hectic life as a homemaker and mother of a very active toddler! May Allah bless her with immense peace, love and success for opening the doors to such a wonderful opportunity for me.

We began with  Surah Al Mulk and were done in about half a month; having memorized it with meaning and good understanding of what each word meant. Alhumdulillah!!! The sense of accomplishment was enormous!  We were literally ecstatic! :D . And so we progressed and did more soorahs. And since then Alhumdulillah the joy and blessing of it has been purely from Allah.  He guides whom He wills!

So, to help as many people as possible who dream to memorize surahs from the quran with meaning, we have put up this blog. This is purely with the intention to please Allah alone and help others gain sawaab and barkah from learning and reciting His kalaam.

Allah, may He be exalted, says (interpretation of the meaning): “And We have indeed made the Quran easy to understand and remember, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)?” [al-Qamar 54:17].

The Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “The one who is skilled in reciting Qur’an will be with the noble, honourable scribes and the one who recites Qur’an and falters therein, and finds it difficult, will have a double reward.”
{Narrated by al-Bukhaari (4937) and Muslim (798). }

May Allah accept this effort from us, grant everyone ease and make it sawaab-e-jaariyah for all.
Aameen ya rabbil aalmeen!
